Feeding Pet Rabbits

Feeding Pet Rabbits

Rabbits are omnivores; they thrive on a balanced pelleted diet that should be supplemented with hay to help keep their teeth down. Timothy hay is ideal, but alfalfa hay should not be offered because it contains excessive amounts of calcium and too little fiber.

Like other pets, rabbits should also have access to fresh clean water at all times. Their urine has high calcium content, giving it a chalky white appearance.

Rabbits benefit from a regular grooming regimen. Daily brushing can keep their fur soft and clean. Their claws and teeth may also need to be trimmed regularly.

Rabbits rarely nip or bite. They possess a pleasant disposition, making them ideal pets for young kids. They are quite playful and can learn to recognize members of the family.

If you are thinking of bringing home a pet rabbit, make sure you are committed to its lifetime care. Bring your pet to a veterinarian for regular checkups. Click here for more info.
