Ferrets are extremely inquisitive and curious creatures. When they are allowed out of their cages, they will surely spend most of the time investigating every nook and cranny of the house. So it’s a good idea to ferret-proof the room where you will allow your pet to spend time in. While you’re at it, make sure to be on the lookout for common household compounds and products that may be harmless to humans, but can be toxic to ferrets.
Just like dogs, ferrets can suffer from chocolate toxicity. It contains theobromine, a compound that their bodies are unable to efficiently metabolize.
Antifreeze and summer coolant
These products are extremely toxic to all animals. Antifreeze smells and tastes sweet, making the product appealing, so your pet ferret may try to taste some of it while exploring.
Grapes and raisins
Grapes, currants, and other related fruits (dried or fresh) are toxic to ferrets.
