Do Cats Get Colds?

do-cats-get-coldsYes, they do. Just like humans, cats can suffer from colds that often leave them miserable. There is no cure for the common cold; fortunately, there are some things that cat owners can do to help their furballs feel better.

  • Encourage your cat to keep eating. A cat that suffers from a cold may refuse to eat because they are unable to smell their food. Feed your furball plenty of canned food because it has a much stronger odor than kibble.
  • Use a humidifier. The more moisture there is in the air, the greater chance that the congestion inside their heads will ease up. If you don’t have a humidifier, boil a pan of water on the stove; it works the same way as a humidifier.
  • Help your cat stay hydrated by keeping a bowl of fresh and clean drinking water nearby.
  • Clean eye and nasal discharges using damp cotton balls or a soft washcloth so they won’t dry up and form a crust around the cat’s eyes and nose. For further details about this, click on the link.
