Musladin-Lueke Syndrome (MLS) In Beagles

musladin-lueke-syndrome-mls-in-beaglesBeagles can suffer from a variety of health problems that are hereditary in nature. One of these is Musladin-Lueke Syndrome (MLS). It is a condition that affects the normal development of a dog’s connective tissues and major organs such as the bones, muscles, skin, and heart. The affected parts of the body fail to form normally, which can have a dramatic impact on the way an affected dog looks, moves, and lives. Beagles with MLS often appear smaller than the breed standard, and may have a strangely flat head, eyes that are sloping, and skin that is tight and stiff. They also assume a distinct gait, appearing as if they are walking on the tips of their toes.

The severity of the condition varies between dogs, with some exhibiting very mild symptoms, while others can suffer from severe forms of the problem, their health and wellness significantly affected.

There is no cure or treatment for MLS; it is not necessarily fatal for all or even majority of affected dogs. However, it can potentially have a significant effect on the animal’s quality of life, especially in severe cases when seizures happen. Since it is a hereditary problem, make sure to deal with reputable breeders when buying a beagle. Contact your animal hospital staff click on the link.
