If you are planning to bring home a guinea pig or two, make sure that you have done your assignment thoroughly. There are various types of guinea pigs that are kept as pets and each one has their individual attributes and specific needs. Like most pets, guinea pigs thrive well with proper care and nutrition, as well as living with other guinea pigs of the same sex.
If you are also thinking of having a pet rabbit or two, or you already have one, take note that though they are close relatives with guinea pigs, they should NOT be kept together in the same enclosure because rabbits may end up bullying the smaller guinea pigs.
Guinea pigs also have sensitive digestive and respiratory systems, so it’s very important to maintain excellent living conditions. Good quality grass or hay should always be available, and the bedding should be dust-free. Ask your vet for more information.
