Pancreatitis In Pets

pancreatitis-in-petsThe pancreas produces insulin which is important in controlling blood sugar levels of sugar in the body. It is also the source of enzymes that are essential for digestion and absorption of specific nutrients. Normally, eating activates the release of pancreatic enzymes which are then released into the small intestine. But there are instances when the enzymes are activated within the pancreas instead of in the small intestines, leading to inflammation of the pancreas. Serious or chronic pancreatitis can adversely affect the normal production of the pancreases, eventually paving the way for diabetes mellitus. Pets that develop diabetes require insulin shots to regulate blood sugar level. Digestive enzyme replacement therapy may also be necessary if digestive enzymes produced by the pancreas are deficient. When the pancreas is inflamed, it can also cause damage to adjacent organs and tissues which, in extreme cases, can result in damage to the tissues. Click on the link to know more details.
