Collars are one of a pet dog’s basic essentials. There are different types of collars, each serving a specific purpose. Collars are used for leash walks, training regimens, dog identification, or making a fashion statement. Being familiar with different types of collars will give you an edge when picking out the right one that will meet your pet’s needs.
Chain slip collars (choke chains)
These collars are indicated only for training regimens. The collar is designed to allow the owner or trainer to make a quick tug on the leash to call a dog’s attention when he makes a mistake or displays undesirable behavior. Pulling on the leash tightens the collar around the dog’s neck.
Some dog trainers don’t recommend choke chains because of the likelihood that it can cause damage to the delicate tissues of the dog’s neck.
If you do use a choke chain for your dog, make sure you know how to use it correctly. It should never be left on your dog’s neck when you are not around to keep an eye on your pet, because it may cause strangulation. For more Animal Health Tips, visit the link.
